2010 in a Nutshell (an abnormally large nutshell...)

Argh. I finally get around to posting an entire year's worth of our lives and Blogger sabotaged me....who knew control-Z could cause so much anguish and distress? I thought it was supposed to save time, but apparently Blogger uses it to trick unsuspecting people by deleting all their work then autosaving it for them as a blank doc. Annoying. I wish I could boycott them somehow (does it count as a boycott if it's free?)...but I have a feeling they won't be too affected by my kicking and screaming. And so I will write it again. This time I won't use control-Z.

So I've been meaning to post a short summary of our 2010 to get us caught up with all the overachievers who aren't a year and a half behind on their blogs....I was going to do it in January but then we bought a house instead.  Here is a second-time around synopsis of the year, a little bit shorter than the first, with the slightest hint of irritation. :)

January
Jake left me to spend two weeks in Thailand with his buddies…
This is him realizing what a big mistake he made.
He came back after one.

February
Even with the creepy snake costume, I was so happy that Evan beat the Russian dude.
I tend to get a little obsessed when the Olympics are on. I think I spent a majority of February watching. This and the 5-star steak dinner Jake made me for Valentines Day were definitely the highlights of Feb.

March
I don’t remember anything too significant happening in March….we did go ring shopping, but we had already established that we weren’t getting engaged until April, so March was just kindof a nuisance.

April
We got engaged!
Flowers, love notes, the Eiffel Tower, and Mr. Right. The perfect ingredients for a proposal.
I also got to take a short trip to Utah to spend some time with the fam and do some preliminary wedding planning. It was a CRAZY weekend. All of this happened over the course of a few days:
Todd and Chris graduated! (That isn't their kid, but the one inside her tummy is!)
Mom, Hauni, and Chris threw me a super fun bridal shower even though 2 out of 3 of them were 8 months prego.
Opening one of the more awkward gifts....can you tell I'm blushing?
The girls also helped me shop for a wedding dress. This was the first one I tried on. After an extensive search and some major headaches, I ended up going with this one. Should have trusted my gut.
And by far the best part of the weekend - Hauni invited me to be there for sweet little Emma's birth. So amazing.
 May
Jake graduated with his master's in accounting.1 + 1 = 2 bean counters.
This was on ASU's business website. My bro-in-law dubbed him the 'poster child.'
We also stayed busy planning an out-of-state wedding and moving my stuff into our new apartment. Jake and I decided we could do it all on our own…I have a lot of stuff....not a smart move.

June
June was another big month. We got married for one...
I guess the fam was pretty pumped about it. Especially my parents for some reason.
Three hot mamas with their sweet babies...they were all 3 months or newer!
Jake's wonderful family
My wonderful family
From the bridal shots. Hopeffuly you can't tell I had a major meltdown just beforehand....we were running late and I had to change into my dress in a cramped public restroom BY MYSELF (it ain't easy) and my hair and makeup weren't cooperating....by the time we finally got to the meeting spot (late) I was practically in tears and Jake had to run back to the car for something we forgot and the poor photographer had to calm me down himself.
It was a long, fun, special, crazy, exhausting, memorable day.
We stayed a couple days in Park City, then flew up to Portland, drove to the coast, up to Canada (we must have been inspired by the Olympics), then back down to beautiful Basin City. Here are some highlights:
Haystack Rock
The fun bed and breakfast in Arch Cape
Jake would have made a good goonie (goony?)
Stanley Park in Vancouver CA. So beautiful.
Jake rocking the v-neck I 'made' him wear in Whistler. He hasn't worn it since. I thought he looked good.
We had a casual open house in my backyard in Basin City. Very casual (notice bike).
Then we headed back to reality....

(Are you beginning to understand why it was so painful to rewrite this monster of a post? Don't worry, the second half of 2010 wasn't nearly as eventful as the first)

July
Jake started his new (old) job with PwC. They put him in my old cube and called him Mr. Casper.
His first day. Not sure if he's super excited about it....maybe he was realizing that I wouldn't be there to do all his work for him this time....(just kiddin Jakey!)

August
August was long and hot. Jake was super busy with work and CPA exams. I got to go up to Utah for another fun weekend with the family. It was a lot more low key than last time, but still fun.
A couple of momentous occasions: Max turned 4, and Michael smiled!

September
The heat was driving us cuckoo so we drove up to the mountains with our friends Greg and Shirley and slept on the cool hard ground. It was heaven! Except for the part where we couldn’t sleep cuz it was mating season for the elk and there was a herd of ‘em super close by and they were singing their love songs all night. I was also terrified that we’d get attacked by a bear and that Greg, who had brought our only source of defense, would sleep right through it.

October
Jake had been begging for me to take him to the zoo for months, and it had finally started cooling down a little so we went.
He loved feeding the giraffes
And thought he was hilarious for snapping this pic with the zebra bootie in the background. Kids.

 November
We spent Thanksgiving in Phoenix with Jake's family. It was a great day.

December
We took our first trip to Disneyland together...it was Jake's first time EVER. Sadly we left the camera in the car, so we didn't give the day the documentative justice it deserved :(.

We managed to get a couple shots with Jake's phone. You probably can't even tell we're at Disneyland here....or that we were soaked from head to toe after an altercation with the evil Splash Mountain. We got stuck in the front somehow and we paid for it.
Or at least I paid for it (notice Jake using me as a shield)

We got to spend 10 days in Washington for Christmas. Jake was worried that he would get bored after day 2 so my dad put him to work right away....
Jake and Mike bailing dad out of one of his typical debacles

It was just us and the parents, so it was pretty quiet. Well, Mike was there too, but pretty much all we saw of him was his dirty dishes and stinky socks laying around—he was always out squeezing every last minute of partying in before he left for the mish.

We managed to stay pretty busy most of the time…if you count throwing up and other similar bathroom-related symptoms as being busy. Jake woke up with the flu on Christmas morning then I caught the bug a couple days later. We still had fun though.

After we had sufficiently abused the bathroom, we decided to give it a little makeover as a peace offering (not really, we had planned on re-doing it for my parents for Christmas).
Before
During...
After. Hope you like it mama!
And last but not least................................
We bought a house!
....or at least we put in our offer, and the saleslady took a cheesy picture of us putting the 'sold' sticker on the lot map....that pretty much made it official.

It was a good year!
